Nielson is successfully practicing his profession of dentistry in Vermont, Fulton County, IL, and was born in Denmark on 28 Mar 1870, the son of Niels and Carrie (Peterson) Jensen, also natives of Denmark. In 1884 the family came to the United States and settled in McLeod Co., Minn., where they still reside, engaged in farming on 160 acres of land. John P. attended the public school in his native country for eight years, the law requiring every child from the age of six years to that of fourteen, to go to school all the year, there being no summer vacation. After coming to this country, Mr. Nielson devoted much time to the acquiring of the English language in order to fit himself for whatever position he might be called upon to fill. He traveled considerably through the Western and Middle states. In 1898 he entered the dental department of the Northwestern Univ. at Chicago, and for three years studied and operated there. He graduated with the class of 1901, receiving the highest honors and never having failed in an examination. He practiced in Chicago for two years, and in 1902 he established a practice in Vermont, IL. On 26 Sept 1898 Dr. Nielsen was united in marriage with Martha Christiansen, a native of Germany. They have two children, namely: Ernee, born 3 November 1899, and Alice, born 5 Nov 1901. In politics, Dr. Nielson is a supporter of the best man in his judgement for office, and no party man. He is affiliated with the IOOF. He and his wife are members of the Lutheran Church. He is affiliated with the IL State Dental Society, and the McDonough, and Fulton Dental Societies, and the First District Dental Society.
